This is the take home calculator most people reach for first: gross salary in, salary after tax out. The rest of our tools, from withholding to instalments, live on the all calculators page.
Gross to net at a glance
The table below runs the same maths as the calculator: a straight gross to net conversion for Australia at six common salaries, using 2026-27 resident rates with the tax-free threshold claimed and no HELP debt. It answers the gross income to net income question without any typing. Working the other way, from the net pay you want back to the salary that produces it, is the job of the net to gross calculator.
| Annual gross | Total tax | Net pay | Weekly net | Monthly net | Effective rate |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| $50,000 | $6,270 | $43,730 | $841 | $3,644 | 12.5% |
| $65,000 | $11,295 | $53,705 | $1,033 | $4,475 | 17.4% |
| $80,000 | $16,120 | $63,880 | $1,228 | $5,323 | 20.2% |
| $95,000 | $20,920 | $74,080 | $1,425 | $6,173 | 22.0% |
| $120,000 | $28,920 | $91,080 | $1,752 | $7,590 | 24.1% |
| $150,000 | $39,570 | $110,430 | $2,124 | $9,203 | 26.4% |
Treat it as a salary gross to net calculator in table form. Every figure is computed from the 2026-27 rates, not copied from a static list.
What comes out of gross pay
Three deductions decide the gap a gross pay and net pay calculator has to bridge. Income tax is the big one: the 2026-27 tax brackets take nothing below $18,200, then 15c per dollar to $45,000, 30c to $135,000, 37c to $190,000 and 45c beyond. The low income tax offset hands back up to $700 at the bottom end.
The Medicare levy adds a flat 2% for most residents, with a phase-in that spares low incomes. It is collected with income tax, so payslips rarely show it separately, but it moves your effective rate all the same.
A study loan is the third piece. Compulsory HELP repayments for 2026-27 run at 15c per dollar of income between $69,528 and $129,717, and 17c above that. Tick the HELP option above to include it, or model the repayment on its own with the HECS repayment calculator.
Tax and super in the same view
Plenty of searches ask for a tax and super calculator, or a super and tax calculator, as if two tools were needed. Here it is one screen: the results panel shows the 12% super guarantee your employer pays on top of gross salary, next to the tax coming out of it. Super never reduces take-home pay. It goes to your fund, not your bank account.
Quoted a package salary including super? Tick the option and the tool works as a package salary calculator, stripping the guarantee out first. A $100,000 package including super is a base salary of $89,286 plus $10,714 in super for 2026-27, the same split a super salary calculator would give you.
Weekly wage and pay cycle conversions
Paid by the week? Enter the weekly figure and set the cycle selector to weekly: the tool behaves as a weekly wage calculator and annualises across 52 weeks before working out tax. The same switch makes it a weekly income calculator in reverse, converting an annual salary into the weekly net figure. As a general pay rate calculator it moves between all four cycles, weekly, fortnightly, monthly and annual, from a single input.
Your employer does not use an annual average on payday. Per-pay withholding comes from the weekly tax table, which rounds each pay event separately, so expect payslip figures a few dollars different from one 52nd of the annual liability.
An income pay calculator should also cope with residency changes, second jobs and Medicare exemptions. For the full set of options, the PAYG calculator on the homepage runs the same engine with every setting exposed.
