Pro Rata Salary Calculator

Use this pro rata salary calculator to turn an advertised full-time salary into what you are paid for your hours. A full-time week is 38 hours under the National Employment Standards, so three 7.6-hour days are 60% of the salary. The calculator then takes out 2026-27 tax, Medicare and HELP.

How to calculate pro rata salary

Full-time salary x your weekly hours / full-time weekly hours = pro rata salary.

Use your own workplace's full-time hours. A $90,000 role in a 37.5-hour workplace, worked for 30 hours, pays $72,000. To go from an hourly rate instead, use the hourly to salary calculator.

Pro rata for part of the year

Starting or leaving mid-year scales the salary again by the days you are employed. The calculator uses calendar days out of 365: a $100,000 salary for 146 days is $40,000. Some employers and agreements count working days instead, so check your payslip if the figures differ by a little.

Why part-time pay carries a lower average tax rate

Tax is progressive, so a smaller salary keeps more of each dollar. Full time on $80,000, tax and Medicare take 20.2%. Three days on $48,000 takes 11.7%. Check any salary in the PAYG calculator, or see the full breakdown in the take-home pay calculator.

Frequently asked questions

How do you calculate a pro rata salary?
Multiply the full-time salary by your weekly hours, then divide by the full-time hours. Three 7.6-hour days on an $80,000 salary is $80,000 x 22.799999999999997 / 38 = $48,000.
Is a full-time week always 38 hours?
No. The National Employment Standards set 38 hours unless your award or enterprise agreement sets different hours, so some workplaces have a shorter full-time week. Enter yours in the calculator.
Does super go down on a part-time salary?
It scales with your pay. The 12% super guarantee is worked out on what you actually earn, so a 60% salary carries 60% of the full-time super.
Can I claim the tax-free threshold on a part-time job?
Yes, if it is the job you claim it from. You claim the tax-free threshold from one payer at a time, usually the one that pays you most.
