Hourly Rate Calculator
Convert an hourly rate into weekly, fortnightly, monthly and annual pay, before and after tax. $45 an hour at 38 hours a week is $88,920 a year, with take-home of $69,946 under the 2026-27 scales.
- A 38-hour week across 52 weeks is 1,976 paid hours a year. That is the divisor behind every rate-to-salary conversion on this site.
- Two extra hours a week at $45.00 adds $4,680 to your annual gross before tax.

This is the rate-conversion tool in the site's kit. Salary-based, HECS, second-job and every other pay situation is covered at all calculators.
How the rate-to-salary conversion works
The maths is deliberately plain: hourly rate times hours per week gives weekly gross, and weekly gross times 52 gives the annual salary equivalent. The default of 38 hours is the full-time standard set by the National Employment Standards, which makes 1,976 paid hours in a standard working year. Every conversion on this page assumes your rate holds for all 52 weeks.
That assumption is the one to watch. Unpaid breaks between contracts, seasonal gaps or a roster that swings between 20 and 40 hours all pull the real annual figure below the neat conversion. If your hours move around, run the calculator at your low and high weeks to bracket the honest range.
Casual rate? Read this first
This page does straight conversion: the rate you enter is the rate that gets multiplied. Casual rates usually contain a 25% loading on top of the base rate, so entering a base rate here understates a casual's real pay. The casual pay calculator is built for that case: it starts from the base rate, prices the loading itself, and explains the leave entitlements the loading replaces. Use this page when you know the final hourly figure; use the casual page when the loading is the question.
From gross salary to after-tax pay
The after-tax column in the results applies the 2026-27 tax brackets and Medicare levy to your annualised salary, assuming an Australian resident claiming the tax-free threshold with no HELP debt. It is the fastest way to see what a rate rise is really worth per week.
Need more moving parts, like a HELP debt, a package quoted with super, or non-resident rates? The take-home pay calculator exposes every toggle. Wage earners paid weekly can also sanity-check payslips against the weekly tax calculator, which explains the per-pay annualisation the schedules use.
