Where these figures come from

The Kmart National Agreement 2024 (AE526796) sets each rate as the matching General Retail Industry Award rate plus a fixed number of cents. The award rates are the Fair Work Ombudsman pay guide for MA000004, published 24 June 2026. Tax: ATO Schedule 1 weekly table, resident, tax-free threshold claimed.

Kmart pay rates 2026-27 by role

Kmart evening, weekend and public holiday rates

Outside weekday base hours, the agreement pays the Retail Award rate for that time, penalty included, plus 1 cent. For an adult Retail Assistant in 2026-27:

When you workFull-time and part-timeCasual
Monday to Friday after 6pm$34.77$41.73
Saturday$34.77$41.73
Sunday$41.73$48.68
Public holiday$62.58$69.54

The 15 cents above-award margin applies to base hours only. That is why a casual earns $34.95 on a weekday but $41.73 after 6pm, not 50% more. To see the tax on casual shifts, use the casual tax calculator.

Kmart junior pay rates

Team members under 20 are paid the greatest of three figures: the agreement's own junior table, the award's junior percentage of the Kmart adult rate, or the award junior rate plus 1 cent. Until December 2026 the percentage of the Kmart rate is the highest for every age. Clerical Administrators, Assistant Supervisors and Supervisors are paid the adult rate at any age.

From 1 December 2026, the Retail Award lifts 18 and 19 year olds with more than 6 months' service. Their award rate plus 1 cent then overtakes the percentage, so a 19 year old Retail Assistant moves from $22.37 to $23.65. See the Retail Award pay rates for the full schedule of steps.

How the Kmart agreement sets pay

The agreement does not print a dollar figure for each year. It sets the base rate as the Retail Award rate for the matching level after each July's Annual Wage Review, plus a margin that grows each year: 10 cents from July 2025, 15 cents from July 2026, 20 cents from July 2027 and 25 cents from July 2028. Casuals get the base rate plus 25%.

It covers team members in Kmart retail stores. It was approved on 18 November 2024, operates from 10 March 2025 and reaches its nominal expiry on 17 November 2028.
